Driving the Chinook Scenic Byway

The Chinook Scenic Byway is the only drive in Washington that’s both a scenic byway and an All American Road.  That should give you an idea of just how beautiful it is!

For 2014, Chinook Pass is scheduled to open by Memorial Day weekend, and it’s definitely worth exploring this gorgeous area of our state.  We especially love exploring Boulder Cave (and kids agree with us), or having a leisurely lunch or dinner at Whistlin’ Jacks on the banks of the American River.

Go all the way to Naches, and make your drive a loop by taking the White Pass Scenic Byway back to Highway 123, and then returning to us by driving through Mt. Rainier National Park.  Lake after lake after lake on this section, plus keep your eyes peeled for big-horned sheep in addition to abundant elk.
