The snowshoeing is fabulous up here in the spring. It’s the time of year we pull out our snowshoes and start exploring everywhere!
As of right now (April 2014), our favorite places for snowshoeing are up around Crystal Mountain, and you can snowshoe any day this spring (even when the ski area isn’t open—just ask in the office for suggestions).
Once Chinook Pass and the Sunrise road open, we love snowshoeing from the White River Campground and also up on Chinook Pass. We love Chinook Pass in particular and can spend hours exploring. As Tipsoo Lake melts out, you can often get pictures of Mt. Rainier reflected in the lake. (Gorgeous!) We’ve even gone snowshoeing under the full moon before and this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
We rent snowshoes right here at Alta Crystal Resort, for a very nominal $20 plus tax per day, including poles. Trust us. Once you try snowshoeing, you’ll understand why it is America’s fastest growing winter sport!
