Snowshoeing Around Alta Crystal Resort

There's a reason snowshoeing is North America's fastest growing winter sport.  Really, all you need to do is walk!  There's a very small learning curve.

Plus, there are so many great places to snowshoe around here.  We now have snowshoes for rent right at Alta Crystal Resort!  And the cost is ridiculously affordable—$20 plus tax for the whole day for adult snowshoes, and just $10 plus tax for kids snowshoes !  Poles included.  You can also rent snowshoes from Greenwater Skis or Crystal Mountain.

Many of our favorite trails start from Alta Crystal Resort, or there are many other places to go around Crystal.  Our recommendations will vary somewhat based on the snow level, but there are always good places to go in the winter!

From Alta Crystal Resort, we usually do one of 3 trails:  The Loop Trail (about 1 mile); the Goat Falls Trail (about 3 miles roundtrip); or the Deep Creek Trail to Noble Knob (4 miles each way, but you don’t have to go the whole way).

Many experienced snowshoers like to go up to Suntop Lookout, take a picnic lunch, something warm to drink and make it an all day trip.

Up at Crystal, we especially love all the trails on East Peak, as you’re not sharing the slopes with skiers or boarders.  The Bullion Basin and Norse Peak Trails are wonderful options if you’d like some elevation gain, or there is a nice 4-mile roundtrip snowshoe with little elevation gain a road that’s closed during the winter. We also like taking the trail past Jim Town (an old mining settlement) into Silver Basin.
