Suntop Lookout is one of our favorite places in the world. 

This fire lookout is located at 5280 feet on top of an extinct volcano in the national forest.  Access is relatively easy, via Forest Service Road 73 and 7315.  Both are gravel roads that are in decent shape, except that 7315 is kind of “washboard-y”, so you won’t be able to drive very fast.  There’s been logging in this area so the trees aren’t as tall as elsewhere, but because there’s been logging, the 360-degree views are incredible.

We love visiting Boulder Cave, and we often recommend this hike to guests staying here.  Yesterday, we had a meeting in Naches, so we decided to stop and hike Boulder Cave on the way home.  We then had a wonderful dinner at Whistlin’ Jacks on the American River, and caught some Alpenglow on Mt. Rainier.  All in all, a pretty good day!

Yippee!  Crystal is now open for the 2012/2013 winter season—with world class skiing, snowboarding and Mt. Rainier Gondola scenic rides.

This is Crystal’s 50th anniversary, and it’s shaping up to be a great one.  Most of the mountain is already open, and more snow is in the forecast.
