Come up after Labor Day for sunny skies and fewer crowds.  (We first visited Washington 21 years ago in September and we were hooked—the weather is that fantastic!)  There are gorgeous flowers along the road up to Sunrise, and the Silver Forest Trail from the main parking area is an easy walk for all ages with wonderful flowers.

We’re not sure we’ve ever seen Summerland looking more beautiful!  This is a fabulous hike for anyone looking for flower-filled meadows, incredible views and marmots practicing their boxing skills. 

We started out early on Friday morning, August 12th.  The dense old-growth forest gave way in about 2 miles to a narrow canyon on Fryingpan Creek, the perfect photo opportunity.  We started to see some peak-a-boo views of Mt. Summer has arrived.  It’s really that simple!  The Sunrise area is now a hiker’s delight, no matter what your age!
